PM's daughter hasn’t written Ramayana book: PMO
PMO says the allegations against PM's daughter are a canard and motivated.

New Delhi: The Prime Minister's Office has denied as 'baseless' the charges regarding PM's daughter Upinder Tankha having 'written or edited' a book on Ramayana.

"She has written no such book, nor edited. All allegations against her are a canard and motivated," Prime Minister's Media Adviser Sanjaya Baru said in a statement.

Activists of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad had gone on a rampage in the Delhi University 's History department and vandalised university property on Tuesday during a protest against the alleged objectionable references to characters in the Ramayana in a text recommended for the university's undergraduate programme.

Upinder, a History Professor, who was present when the ABVP activists barged into the Department was whisked away by SPG personnel.

The ABVP, BJP's student wing, claims that the contentious text is part of a book compiled by Prime Minister's daughter Upinder Singh. The article Three hundred Ramayanas: Five examples and three thoughts on translation, was written by the late scholar A K Ramanujan in 1987

Upinder Singh, a professor of ancient Indian history at DU, has, however, denied that she had compiled the piece or recommended it to her students.

The PMO said "incorrect media reports and baseless charges have been made regarding the alleged book on Ramayana written, edited by Upinder Tankha." Three ABVP leaders, who were arrested after the protests, were denied bail by a Delhi court on Wednesday.
