BANGALORE: Around 30 auto drivers staged a protest after a police constable allegedly assaulted an auto driver at K R Market on Sunday. Siddique, an auto driver, was injured in the incident.According to the police, a biker, who was passing near K R Market lost control over the bike and fell down. Police personnel who were on the spot attended him. Meanwhile, Gunagar, a constable with City Market police station was on the spot, when driver Siddique rammed his auto into the constable.Enraged by this, Gunagar reportedly hit Siddique on his forehead with the walkie-talkie.“Irked by this, around 30 auto drivers protested demanding immediate action against the constable. Senior police officers rushed to the spot and consoled the protesting auto drivers, who withdrew their protest,” the police added.Due to the protest, the traffic in the area was thrown out of gear for some time. No case was registered in connection with the incident.Car Catches Fire, No CasualtiesBangalore: A cab heading to the international airport accidentally caught fire at Yelahanka Junction on BIA Road on Sunday. Sources said the driver and the occupant of the car escaped without any injuries. The police said that Parashivamurthy, a resident of Thayappa Garden, off Bannerghatta Road and the owner-driver of the Tata Indica car, was on his way to drop a passenger to the airport.When the car was near Yelahanka Junction, around 11.45 am, it accidentally caught fire in the bonnet. The driver and passenger, on noticing the fire, got off the car. He raised an alarm for help and the staff of a nearby petrol pump doused the fire. It is suspected that short circuit in the battery might have triggered the fire. A case has been registered in Yelahanka police station in this connection.
