Police probing Raje govt's phone tapping allegations
The people whose phones were allegedly tapped were not identified.

Jaipur: The Rajasthan police is probing into allegations that telephones of certain officers and political leaders were "illegally tapped" by the previous Vasundhara Raje government and about 100 cases were brought to its notice, a top official said on.

Kanhaiya Lal Beherwa, ADG (Crime), said the new Congress government had some information that "telephone calls of certain executives and political leaders were illegally tapped" before it came to power.

"We have been asked to investigate this issue. We tried persuading the service providers (to give details) but they say they don't have permission to reveal details," he said.

The identity of the people whose telephones were allegedly tapped by the BJP government were not revealed by the police.

Beherwa said some official meetings were held in regard to the holding of the probe.

Gulabchand Kataria, the home minister in the Raje government when contacted for his reaction to the allegations, said his ministry had nothing to do with any illegal phone tapping or anything of that sort.
