PALAKKAD: The Perumbavoor police on Friday visited the house of Raghu at Peruvembu in Palakkad district, who was beaten to death on the charge that he had pickpocketed a co-passenger while travelling in a KSRTC bus the other day, as part of evidence collection in connection with his death. Perumbavoor police station sub-inspector Rajendran, accompanied by a civil police officer, came to Peruvembu around 9 am and first talked to Raghu’s mother Sarojini, wife Kasturi and his brother Ravi.The police asked Sarojini as to how much money Raghu had while leaving for Perumbavoor. Sarojini replied that he had a sum of Rs. 12,000. They also asked her as to when Raghu left Peruvembu for Perumbavoor for which she replied at 3 pm. Kasturi was asked as to when Raghu telephoned her last. For that she said that the previous day. She was also asked as to when Raghu had said that he planned to bring the family to Perumbavoor from Gujarat. Kasturi said that as soon as the house was ready, they were planning to shift to Perumbavoor.The police had recovered an ATM card of a person from Kinassery at the time of the incident from the KSRTC bus.  The owner of the ATM card (who did not wish to be identified) also gave his statement to the Perumbavoor police on Friday.  He said that he had given his ATM card to help Raghu who said that somebody from Gujarat would be sending money and he would be able to take it from Perumbavoor through his account. He said that he had helped Raghu and he was not involved in any other way.The police also took the statement of Balan in whose name the gold ornaments were pledged and Raghu had taken the money from the Perumbavoor Service Cooperative Bank. Balan said that the late father of Raghu was his close friend and so he had helped him. Moreover, Raghu was not a member of the bank while he was a member.  The police also asked as for how much amount was the ornaments were pledged and Balan replied that it was for Rs. 19,000. The police also interacted with the local people and other social activists of the area and inquired about the character of Raghu. All the people stated that Raghu was of a good character and he was not a person to involve in any crimes.  The police also visited the Pudunagaram police station also.
