ALAPPUZHA: Gopinathan Pillai, father of Pranesh Kumar Pillai alias Javed Shaikh, who was killed by the Gujarat police in a fake encounter in 2004, has welcomed the Gujarat High Court order to hand over the case to the CBI. The verdict, on the basis of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report, set aside the findings of Gujarat police terming it fake. Javed Sheik, Israt Jahan and two others were killed by the police in theencounter. The police forged a story that they were Lashkar-e-Toiba operatives who came to Gujarat to kill Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The SIT appointed by the court found that they were murdered after a fake encounter. Gopinatha Pillai said that,”the members of the SIT were very sincere and they conducted free and fair enquiry on the matter.” “The new investigation will bring out the culprits before law. I lived more than seven years as the father of terrorist. Finally, the verdict proved that my son was not a terrorist”, Gopinatha Pillai said.
