THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Shashi Tharoor MP will inaugurate the South Zone NSS Pre-Republic Day Parade Camp- 2011 Kerala, organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS) Regional Centre at Thiruvananthapuram under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India,  on Saturday at the Mar Gregorios Renewal Centre, said C Samuel Chelliah, youth officer and camp director of the Centre in a press meet here on Friday.On the occasion, C Anita Sankar, state liaison officer of NSS, Kerala, will release the pre-RD Camp logo and NSS message.As many as 200 volunteers and 25 officials from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands will participate in the camp. It is for the first time that the volunteers from Andaman Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep will be participating.“Till last year, they couldn’t participate owing to lack of official co-ordination and funds. It has been rectified this time and they are all set to participate,” Samuel said.Representatives from 50 different colleges will take part in the camp. On October 24, Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb will inaugurate the academic & cultural programme. Tourism Minister A P Anil Kumar will interact with the camp participants on October 27. Youth Affairs Minister P K Jayalakshmi will deliver the valedictory address and distribute the certificates on October 30.CRPF officers from Pallipuram will be imparting training to participants and experts from concerned fields will conduct academic sessions on various topics related to youth. Participants will be judged on the basis of their parade skills, intellectual and cultural talent. The camp will conclude on October 31.Of the 200 participants, 42 will be selected to participate in the Republic Day parade-2012. Ten from Kerala and two from Lakshadweep are expected to be selected.Selected candidates will participate in a one-month camp on the Jamia Millia Campus in New Delhi starting from January 1, 2012, before performing in the Republic Day parade.
