PUDUCHERRY: Eighty-three prisoners of the Kalapet Central jail, on Tuesday, had the opportunity to be with their family members and eat home-cooked food as part of a Pongal festival gesture by the jail authorities.Four family members of each of the prisoners were allowed to meet them and spend time with them for nearly an hour.The prisoners enjoyed the sweet pongal and other food items, prepared by the family members, who later told reporters that most of them broke down while taking food.The jail authorities received 83 applications out of the total of 202 prisoners for the meeting with the family members. The prisoners were divided into four batches and allotted a time slot.The authorities ensured that only home-made food was being fed to the prisoners. They also provided purified drinking water and biscuits to the relatives.
