THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Private and foreign investments are crucial for the infrastructure development of the state, said KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala at the third day of the Infrastructure Conference here on Friday. Funds for the development activities cannot be realised without Public-Private Partnership, private investment and Foreign Direct Investment. Budget allocation is not enough for the development projects, he added.Use of modern technology is the need of the hour. So private investment is essential. Nedumbassery airport and City Roads Improvement Project are developed in this way, he said. PWD Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju presided over the function. PWD secretary Manoj Joshi, chief engineer Pennamma and Mathew Francis attended the function.The conference concluded on Friday amid criticism from various quarters against the enormous spending for the three-day conference which was held at Vivanta by Taj. Around 120 delegates attended the conference, while 20 experts talked on various topics. Friday’s sessions covered trends in the construction of bridges. Prof Devadas Menon, IIT, Chennai, talked about the recent trends in the design and construction of the bridges. He said that IIT Madras was willing to conduct workshops for the Kerala PWD. Prof S R Gandhi, IIT Chennai, presented the topic ‘Investigation and planning of bridges - the field officers’ role’. S A Reddi, former Dy MD of Gammon India, presented a paper on ‘Practical aspects of modern techniques of bridge construction’.
