MALAPPURAM: “The objective of the mass contact programme, being organised in various districts in Kerala, is reducing the gap between government and the people”, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said. He was delivering the inaugural speech at the Mass Contact Programme here on Thursday. Oommen Chandy said he was also responsible for the administrative shortcomings that led to a huge number of complaints being filed by people in the mass contact programmes.“I also take the responsibility as Chief Minister”, he said. It was not right to blame only officials for the large number of applications received at the mass contact programmes, he added. The government allots financial aids as per rules and  accepts the criticisms against these programmes as positive and the Opposition also supports greatly for the success of the programmes. The next Cabinet meeting will discuss the matter pointed out by the financial department that norms were not followed in allocation of funds as treatment aid, he added. The government will issue BPL ration cards for the eligible families after the mass contact programmes in 14 districts, he added.Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty presided over the meeting. Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed, Tourism Minister for A P Anilkumar and Education Minister P K Abdurabb were also present on the occasion. Thousands from various parts of the district had come to submit their representations in person to the Chief Minister. Thirty-three counters were set up in MSP Ground for the programme.
