New Delhi: The prosecution in the Nitish Katara murder case on Wednesday requested a court to allow it to summon Bhavna Yadav, a sister of accused Vikas Yadav and key witness Bharti Yadav.
Bhavna’s deposition was needed to verify if Bharti got phone calls from Katara's mother after his abduction and murder in February 2002, said Public Prosecutor B S Joon.
Nitish was allegedly abducted from a wedding in Ghaziabad and murdered by Vikas and his cousin Vishal Yadav who suspected that he was having an affair with Bharti.
Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur asked the defence to reply to the prosecution’s request by January 12.
Bharti, who is based in the United Kingdon, told the court in November 2006 that she had not received calls from Nitish's mother Neelam Katara or brother Nitin Katara after the murder.
Hoon said a cell phone company has reported that the number on which the calls were received belonged to a customer called Bhavna Yadav, a resident of Rajnagar in Ghaziabad.
The prosecution said Bharti has admitted opening a bank account for which she paid Rs 10,000 through a cheque which Nitish had signed.
Bharti, daughter of UP politician D P Yadav, in November 2006 told the court that she was a friend of Nitish but they were not in love.
