Advocates Association President warned Dinakaran that he would face massive protests if he returned to court.

Bangalore: Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Justice PD Dinakaran, accused of corruption, has once again created a controversy after he decided that he would attend the court from Thursday.

Advocates Association President KN Putte Gowda warned Dinakaran that he would face massive protests if he returned to court. Following the warning Justice Dinakaran changed his mind and decided not to attend court.

The controversy started when one faction of the lawyers' association said that the Supreme Court should either nominate another judge as the Chief Justice or allow Justice Dinakaran to attend the court.

However, Justice Dinakaran has continued handling the administrative work in the court.

He was earlier shifted to the Sikkim High Court but could not join as the Sikkim Bar Association protested against his posting and appealed to the Supreme Court to reconsider its decision.

The move to shift Justice Dinakaran to the Sikkim High Court came after he refused to go on leave.

The judge has not been attending Karnataka High Court proceedings for the past seven months after the Rajya Sabha admitted a motion seeking his removal on charges of corruption and land-grabbing.

The 55-page notice, listing 12 acts of misbehaviour by Justice Dinakaran, was submitted to Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari under Judges (Enquiry) Act, 1968. Barring Congress and DMK, MPs of almost all parties in Rajya Sabha signed the notice.

Allegations listed in the impeachment motion against Justice Dinakaran include possessing wealth disproportionate to known sources of income, unlawfully securing five housing board plots in the name of his wife and two daughters, entering into benami transactions, and acquiring and possessing agricultural holdings beyond ceiling limit.

Other allegations relate to illegal encroachment on government and public property to deprive Dalits and poor of their livelihood, violation of human rights of Dalits and poor and destruction of evidence during official enquiry.
