PUDUCHERRY:  A 25-year-old woman was injured after a powerful country-made parcel bomb exploded at her house at Solai Gounder Veethi in Ariyankuppam here on Tuesday afternoon. Jyothi, who lost her left hand and a finger on her left leg was admitted to the government general hospital. The asbestos roof of her house was also blown off without a trace.Senior Superintendent of  Police (Law and Order) V J Chandran told reporters that the preliminary investigations revealed that Jyothi received a parcel from a courier firm. When she tried to open the parcel it exploded injuring her, he added.Chandran said Jyothi is unconscious and was undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital. Only when she regains consciousness, further investigations could be done, he added.The SSP (L&O) said a country-made bomb with iron nails and ball bearings was used. Sniffer dog and bomb squad were pressed into service for further clues, Chandran said.Inspector General of Police J K Sharma and DIG Atul Katiyar visited Jyothi’s house.Her mother Saroja said the parcel exploded with a loud noise.Jyothi also suffered burns all over her body and blood was oozing from her face as she was taken to the general hospital wrapped in a Paay (mat) and bedsheets in an auto-rickshaw. The lone person who accompanied her was her mother Saroja.Saroja said she had tried to seek the help of the neighbours, but none dared to approach the house.SP (North) Sivadasan and Inspector Basacarane and other officials visited the hospital. Jyothi works in a hand-made projects firm and lives with her mother Saroja, father Panneerselvam and brother Bharanikumar, who is employed in a software firm.
