BANGALORE: Dejected after her paramour questioned her about phone call details and suspected her fidelity, a 24-year-old woman tried to end her life by setting herself ablaze at her residence at Ganapathi Nagar in Byatarayanapura police station limits on Saturday afternoon.Manjula, a tailor, is the victim. She is married to Lokesh for ten years and had rented a house in Ganapathi Nagar recently. The police said that Lokesh’s childhood friend Kumar used to visit the couple’s house frequently. There was a cordial relationship between the couple and Kumar as all hailed from Halakere in Mandya district. But, Kumar allegedly had illicit relationship with Manjula and her husband did not know about it.On Saturday morning, Kumar came to Manjula’s house after her husband left for work.He reportedly went through the call details of her mobile phone and questioned her about speaking to some persons regularly. But, Manjula told him that he was nobody to question her as her husband had not bothered about it.This led to a quarrel between them and Manjula, depressed over it, set herself ablaze in the presence of Kumar.Instead of trying to rescue her, Kumar fled the scene. The incident came to light when her husband came back.Seeing his wife burnt, Lokesh shifted her to Victoria hospital.“However, Manjula in her statement has alleged that Kumar had set her on fire,” the police said.
