THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An association formed by a group of young poets has brought out a quarterly exclusively devoted to poetry. The first issue of the publication which, like the association, is also named ‘Yaralava’, was released on Sunday at the Press Club hall here. The association had conducted poets’ meets in 12 centres in different districts. According to L Thomaskutty, a teacher in the Malayalam Department of the Calicut University and one of the main organisers of Yaralava,  one of the specialties of the association is that it did not have any office-bearers. The various discussions organised by the association also did not have any formal inauguration or a moderator, he said. However, Sunday’s function had, in fact, a moderator in poet Sebastian as the programme included two book releases. Apart from the release of the Yaralava journal, the function also saw the release of the anthology of poetry ‘Newspaper Girl’ written by Vasudevan Korom. Many of the discussions that took place in the forums of Yaralava were published in the form of books or articles in periodicals. Some of the discussions have also found a place in various cyber forums like Facebook. As Thomaskutty writes in the forward of the ‘Yaralava’ quarterly, ‘’Those who are crawling in the mud and those who fly in the skies, both have their space in Yaralava.’’ The quarterly, running into 95 pages, apart from Malayalam poetry, also has translations from the works of Powell and Mar Novack. The address of the association is Yaralava, B-14, Calicut University Campus, Calicut University PO, Malappuram- 673675.An association formed by a group of young poets has brought out a quarterly exclusively devoted to poetry. The first issue of the publication which, like the association, is also named ‘Yaralava’, was released on Sunday at the Press Club hall here. The association had conducted poets’ meets in 12 centres in different districts.
