Red Bull's Mark Webber, who recently announced that he will leave F1 at the end of the current season, reckons that the British Grand Prix will be a very close race. Webber set the second fastest time in second practice after opting out of the first session due to heavy rain.
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes led the field in Friday afternoon's second free practice session at Silverstone, narrowly heading the Red Bulls of former British Grand Prix winners Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel.
Webber said his team tried to experiment as much as possible during the second session and he is confident the information they garnered will hold them in good stead for the race. "I think that both Seb (team-mate Sebastian Vettel) and I ran different compounds and got the information we need for the race," he said as quoted by www.sportal.com.au.
"Today we did a snapshot of work for tomorrow, but mostly the focus was for Sunday. I think the race will be quite tight, to be honest I don't think there's anyone charging away.
Championship leader and Webber's teammate Sebastien Vettel, who finished third in second practice was visibly pleased with how the day went.
"I think overall we can be pretty happy, it was a good day," the German reigning world champion said. "Obviously it was important to get some laps in the dry as we expect dry conditions on Sunday. Now we need to have a look at what we can improve, have a look what the others did and then we'll know a little bit more for tomorrow".
