HYDERABAD: On the second day of the rail roko, the South Central Railways managed to run more trains even as hundreds of pro-Telangana activists and leaders were arrested for trying to disrupt plying of trains.Railway tracks were damaged at one place and buses burnt down by T activists, even as Group-II exams and GHMC bypolls to the Kukatpally division were conducted smoothly.As warned by state police of registering cases against organisers of the rail roko, the names of TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and TJAC convener Prof Kodandaram were also included in cases registered across several places which include Malkajgiri and Medchal police stations. The cases include various sections of IPC and Railways Act. Sources said the duo were shown as ‘absconding’ in the case registered by Malkajgiri police. Additional director general of police (Law & Order) SA Huda said Korutla MLA K Vidyasagar and Kollapur MLA Jupally Krishna Rao were arrested in Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar respectively, when they were going to take part in the rail roko.One each bus was burnt down by miscreants at Kukatpally and Vikarabad while window panes of four buses were damaged in Warangal during a rally.Miscreants also damaged the tracks at Talamadla near Bhiknoor mandal of Nizamabad by removing track clips. “The four accused were identified and taken into custody,’’ Huda said. A total of 715 persons were arrested and 54 cases registered on Sunday across the region. Another 426 persons were taken into preventive custody in Warangal, Karimnagar, Khammam and Adilabad for various protests. Additional DGP (Railways) VSK Kaumudi said 70 cases have been registered by state police and 15 by the RPF and 944 persons arrested in specific cases.“A number of cases have been registered under the Railways Act and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act,’’ he said.Kaumudi said the SCR succeeded in running over 50 passenger and express trains, including 43 long-distance trains through the state.“The number of inter-state trains went up to 44 and more services are being planned, for which additional forces will be deployed from different parts of the state,” he added. Meanwhile, the Railway Magistrate, Secunderabad granted bail to Telangana Jagruti leader Kavitha and others with conditions which include that petitioners should not involve themselves in similar offence.Cyberabad police commissioner Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said a bus was burnt down at Kukaktpally on Sunday by two students who were caught red-handed and sent to judicial remand.
