After facing criticism for a helicopter and an SUV, Vasundhara Raje will soon be flying in a $5-million aircraft.

Jaipur: After facing criticism for a helicopter and an SUV she rides around in, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje will soon be flying in a $5-million aircraft the state government is acquiring from the United States.

The first installment of $100,000 for the Beechcraft King Air B200, which is expected to arrive in Jaipur by September-end, has already been paid to the US-based Raytheon Aircraft. Beechcraft is now a division of Raytheon Aircraft.

The King Air B200 has a capacity of 13 passengers and can fly at a maximum speed of 333 miles per hour at an altitude of 15,000 feet.

Two senior government officials are slated to fly to the US in August to take the delivery of the new plane.

After it arrives, the state would have two planes and a helicopter in its inventory.

The company has also requested the state government to send its pilots to the Raytheon learning centre to train them in maintaining the new aircraft.

The state government has already spent Rs 200 million on purchasing an Augusta helicopter and Rs 1.5 million on a Ford Endeavour sports utility vehicle (SUV) for the Chief Minister.

This apart, Rs 7 million was spent on purchasing Tata Indigo cars for other ministers but owing to their dislike, they were all returned.

The state government now plans to purchase Toyota Innova cars for the ministers at a cost of Rs 10 to 15 million.
