Rashtrapati Bhavan Yet to Seek Report from MHA on Missing JNU Student: Sources

New Delhi: A day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that President Pranab Mukherjee will seek a report from the Home Ministry (MHA) on missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed, MHA on Monday clarified that no such report has been sought by the Rashtrapati Bhavan yet.

"We have not received any intimation from President so far nor we have asked Delhi police to send any report on this matter," he added.

Meanwhile, MHA questioned why Najeeb's family was not filing a habeous corpus writ in high court if he (Najeeb) can't be traced.

The writ of habeous corpus can force the police to produce najeeb or information about him before the judiciary. 'If Delhi Police is not doing its job, a judicial order will help the family more than these protests," a senior MHA official said.

On Sunday, Najeeb’s mother was detained when they along with scores of agitating students tried to take out a protest march to India Gate demanding intensified efforts from police in tracing him.

Fatima Nafees, mother of Najeeb, was virtually dragged into a bus by police along with other students when they were on their way to India Gate.

There are allegations that Najeeb’s mother and sister were manhandled by male Delhi Police constables. “We will look in to the allegations ,” MHA sources said.

Najeeb (27), a student of School of Biotechnology and a native of Badaun in Uttar Pradesh, went missing on October 15 following an on-campus scuffle allegedly with the members of ABVP the night before.
