HYDERABAD: Underlining the UPA government's decision to augment the existing power generation capacity and corresponding transmission corridors, deputy chief minister Damodara Rajanarsimha on Sunday launched the 1200 KV transformer, considered to be the world's highest voltage power transformer. The transformer was manufactured by Vijai Electricals in association with Power Grid Corporation of India and Daihen Corporation of Japan.Rajanarasimha said that the state government is keen to install more transformers in every nook and corner to provide regular power supply to the people. He later officially handed over the transformer to S K Chaturvedi, chairman and managing director (CMD) of Power Grid Corporation of India. In his welcome address, Dasari Jai Ramesh, CMD of Vijai Electricals said that it was a huge achievement to develop the 1200 kV single phase auto transformer with in-house technology, know-how and expertise. "To develop this frontier technology indigenously, the Power Grid Corporation has taken a lead to establish a 1200 kV test station at Bina, Madhya Pradesh with an experimental line of 1.6 kilometres," he added.
