Renewal of voters list to begin today

KOCHI: The renewal of the voters’ list in the district will start on Friday, District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth has said. New names can be enrolled in the voters’ list till November 1, he told a meeting of the representatives of political parties held here. The applications for including new names in the voters’ list can be submitted from 9 am to 5 pm on October 16, 23 and 30 at the places where polling stations were set up for the last Assembly elections.According to the Election Commission norms, those who have completed 18 as on January 1, 2012 can submit applications for including them in the list. The applications can also be submitted at the taluk and village offices till November 1. Those who are born between January 2, 1993, and January 1,1994, can file applications to enroll their names online at the polling stations in which their parents had voted last time. The electoral identity card will be distributed at the polling stations concerned on January 25. Those who are above 75 can send the documents through their relatives. The Collector also directed the political parties to appoint a representative at the district level who will in turn appoint the booth-level officers.There are 28 new booths in the district - Thrikkakara 8, Ernakulam 2, Tripunithura 4, Paravur 7, Kalamassery 5, Aluva 1 and Perumbavur 1.
