Kozhikode: An estimated 50 per cent voters had exercised their franchise till noon in one booth each in Nadapuram and Perinthalmanna Assembly constituencies where repolling was ordered by the Election Commission during the second phase of the polls held on April 29.
Re-polling was necessitated in booth No.144 at Kakkamvelli lower primary school in Nadapuram due to a joint demand by the ruling UDF and the Opposition LDF candidates, M Veerankutty and Binoy Viswam respectively.
This comes after an insulation tape was found pasted on the name and symbol of Veerankutty on the Electronic Voting Machine.
However, repolling was reported to be going on peacefully at the booth where brisk polling was reported with women voters outnumbering their male counterparts since morning.
Re-polling, caused due to EVM failure, was also progressing smoothly in booth No 109 in Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district.
Over 50 per cent of the voters had cast their votes in the booth till noon promising a heavy turnout by the evening.
