THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb on Friday reiterated the UDF Government’s commitment to set up research parks at the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram (CET) for promoting research in science and technology.The Thiruvananthapuram Engineering Science and Technology Park (TEST) will come up on CET campus, the Education Minister told the Assembly on Friday. ‘’The park will help streamline research and development endeavours in science and technology and encourage the emergence of new ideas,’’ Rabb said in a reply to MLAs A Pradeep Kumar, C Raveendranathan and C Kunhammad Master.The CET campus will also feature a Transportation Engineering Research Centre for making possible practical research in the transportation engineering sector. Both projects had been announced by former Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac in his last budget presented in February. In fact, Rs 10 crore had been allotted then for establishing TEST. TEST will be set up in three buildings on a ten acre campus.The Minister also elaborated upon the existing facilities at CET for promoting research.He said that the Centre for Engineering Research and Development presently functions at the CET with the aim of improving the quality of technical education and encouraging research. All government medical colleges in the State also have adequate facilities for conducting research, Rabb said.
