THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Human Rights Commission admitted a petition filed by a social activist seeking intervention in the delay in the renovation works on the Murinjapalam-Ulloor stretch. The defendants in the petition include the Kerala Road Fund Board, Kerala Water Authority chief engineer and the KSEB chief engineer. P K Raju, the petitioner and a resident of Murinjapalam, alleged that the patients to several hospitals, including the Medical College Hospital, and thousands of residents in the area are being put to immense suffering for the past several months owing to the road works. The new bridge at Murinjapalam, scheduled to be completed in 200 days, would not meet the target if the work progresses at the current pace. Three 20-foot-deep and 10-m-long pits dug on the Kochulloor-Medical College stretch has thrown the traffic out of gear for the past several months. The poor condition of the road and traffic snarls are a threat to the lives of patients brought to the Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, the petitioner said. He prayed to the Commission to give necessary directions to the officials concerned to ensure the timely completion of works.
