In one of its major initiatives to enhance film and theatre in the commercial capital, the district administration will organise an international film festival from December 15-22.
Films from countries across the world will be showcased at this mega event which is expected to draw critics and viewers from different strata of society.
District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth said that films from Afghanisthan, the United States, Japan, Germany etc will be part of the festival, which aims at showcasing also the latest of the films entering the industry. “At least 100 movies will be screened at the event at various theatres and multiplexes in the city. We are seeking permission from theatre owners to showcase the films. However, the inauguration of the event and the first film screening will be held at the Durbar Hall Ground,” the Collector said.
Delegates from National film societies and corporations from the foreign countries will also be roped in.
“The event will be held using the latest possible technology,” he added. “Various other departments are being roped in for the event. The Cultural Affairs department and various societies will be coordinating with us.” he said.
He said the district administration has currently approached the government for permission to allow uncensored films to be showcased for the festival. “This is part of the policy of film festivals and we have currently approached the government for allowing us to showcase uncensored foreign films,” he said.
