KOCHI: The Ernakulam Junction and North Railway Station have geared up on the eve of Babri Masjid Demolition Day to tackle any untoward incidents. Both the Railway Protection Force and Railway Police are on their toes. The RPF have deployed additional forces in Ernakulam Junction and Town railway stations. Security will be beefed up till Wednesday morning. Each additional staff will be on duty for 12 hours. Metal detectors have been placed at entry points. Anti-sabotage checks, bomb disposal squad and dog squads will be there to ensure the safety of one and all at railway stations. Instead of two, four policemen will be deployed to escort each train, according to Divisional Security Commissioner, RPF, K J Joy. “Around eight cops will keep vigil in South and half the number in North,” said Prince, CI (South).Around 10 to 15 additional cops have already been deployed to intensify security ever since the Sabarimala season set in. Crowd management, parking and other problems of the pilgrims are taken care of. After the Mumbai terror attack, security has been intensified at both stations, said Prince.Hand-held metal detectors will also be used, one at the South station and one at the North, he said and added that door-frame metal detector at North Station would be installed by Monday evening. Four people will inspect the North station and keep watch on trains since the Sabarimala temple opened. “Both the RPF along with Kerala Police are on their toes,” said Raju (ASI), RPF.The Railway Police will deploy maximum number of people at both stations from Monday midnight. With the cooperation of the district administration frisking, anti-sabotage checking and other measures will be undertaken, said Vinod, SI, Railway Police. The shadow police have been active in both the railway stations to ensure security of the pilgrims. Additional forces will be deployed at both stations, said Nissar, SI, Special Branch.
