New Delhi: Two Indian sailors of the Hong Kong supertanker Hebei Spirit, jailed in South Korea over an oil spill, were released on bail on Friday.

The South Korean Supreme court has granted bail to Captain Jasprit Chawla and chief officer Syam Chetan of the Hebei Spirit.

They were in custody for over a year after being held responsible for the country's worst oil spill.

Syam Chetan's sister Priyadeep Chawla said that the only information that they have is that both of them have been granted bail.

"The only information that we have as of now is that they have been granted bail. We just want to know what the Government plans to do now. We request that they should come back to India as soon as possible," she said.

"So far we haven't met any minister, we are still trying to reach them. We will be happy only when they come back home because we have been suffering for one-and-a-half-year now," Priyadeep added.
