Mumbai: Saif Ali Khan says he played a nasty role in Omkara, the Indian adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello.

Khan did not specify the part he plays, but said his character was selfish and exploited people to serve his own needs.

"A strong theme in this film is insecurity and jealousy, which is often the very case in any society," he says. "He uses people and their proximity to him to destroy them."

Khan said his character is upset when his employer does not promote him and this disappointment shows in his dealings with other people.

"My character is named Eshwar Tyagi, nicknamed Langda (lame) Tyagi due to his limp, which only adds to the already nasty piece of work that he is," Khan said.

Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, the movie also features Ajay Devgan in the lead with actresses Kareena Kapoor and Bipasha Basu. The movie is set to release in July 2006.
