Salman or SRK, who will play God in new film?
Buzz is that either Salman Khan or Shah Rukh Khan will play the lead in Akshay Kumar's home production 'Oh My God'.

Mumbai: It's a film that was conceived more than two years ago, but looks like the heavens are yet to give it a green signal.

Akshay Kumar who was supposed to play Lord Krishna in his home production, 'Oh My God' is still looking for someone who can replace him for the film's lead role.

And buzz is that Salman and SRK are top contenders. Says a source, "Since Akshay will be busy with other film commitments, he and Ashvini Yardi (the director) plan to approach either SRK or Salman for the role, depending on who is available."

The film is a screen adaptation of Paresh Rawal's Hindi play 'Krishna vs Kanhaiya' and the writers now plan to tweak the role of the main protagonist who will play Krishna depending on who signs on for the part.

Adds the source, "Till Akshay was playing the role, they were sure what they wanted. But now since that has changed the director is more than willing to change the script to suit the star. Both Salman and SRK will bring in a very different kind of personality towards the role and it only makes sense to write the dialogues accordingly."

Khan vs Khan

Director Ashvini who has worked with both the Khans when she was part of a popular GEC (General Entertainment Channel) is apparently more than confident of bringing at least one of them on board.

The source says, "Ashvini has been friends with both Salman and SRK and therefore there is every possibility that they might come on board."

However, with both their schedules it seems more of an ambiguous proposition. SRK is busy with his Yashraj film till October and then starts work on Rohit Shetty's 'Chennai Express'.

Salman on the other hand begins shooting for 'Dabangg 2' next week and will be busy with his home productions post that. "Akshay too is trying to juggle his dates, in case nothing works out, but he has four back-to-back films." When contacted Ashvini Yardi said, "We are working on the cast. It's too early to comment."

Gods on screen

Vikram Gokhale - 'Yeh Hai Zindagi:' Sanjeev Kumar's Anand Narayan at first mistakes Vikram Gokhale's God as a theatre artiste in the garb of Lord Krishna. Amitabh Bachchan - 'God Tussi Great Ho:' When inspired by Bruce Almighty, who better than Amitabh Bachchan to play God, portrayed by Morgan Freeman in the original. However, Rumi Jafri's 'God Tussi Great Ho' was as far removed from the Hollywood hit as his hero Salman Khan was from Jim Carrey.

Morgan Freeman - 'Bruce Almighty' and 'Evan Almighty:' Tired of television reporter Bruce Nolan's (Jim Carrey) incessant complaints, Moregan Freeman's God gives the former his powers for a month to teach him how difficult it is to run the world. In the sequel, God contacts Congressman Evan Baxter (Steve Carell) to build an ark in preparation for a flood (a la Noah) and also helps expose corruption in office.

George Burns - 'Oh, God!, Oh, God! Book II' and 'Oh, God! You Devil:' Starting off by selecting an assistant grocery manager as his messenger for the modern world in the first movie to asking a young girl to spread his influence and word, George Burns played God thrice. In 'Oh, God! You Devil', his last as the Almighty, he also double up as Satan.

Rodney Dangerfield - 'Angeles With Angels:' In his last movie, veteran actor, producer, writer Rodney Dangerfield plays God. Feeling sad for Frank Gorshin's George Burns, God sends him back to Earth to help a musician smuggle Cuban cigars before reuniting him (Gorshin) with his love.
