TIRUNELVELI: With 13 days left for the Sankarankoil byelection, scheduled for March 18, campaigning has gained momentum. After the last day for withdrawal of nominations closed on Saturday and with no one withdrawing their nomination, the final number of candidates is 13.S Muthuselvi (AIADMK) Jawahar Suryakumar (DMK) Sathan Thirumalaikumar (MDMK), K Muthukumar (DMDK), L Murugan (BJP) K S Nageshwara Rao (Samajwadi Party) Ganesan (AIJMK (Dr Isacc) ) and indepe-ndents, Ayyanu, S Arumugan, P Udayar, G Sankar, S Perumal, and P Vellathurai. Though there are 13 candidates, the war is between AIADMK’s S Muthu Selvai, DMK’s Jawahar Suryakumar, MDMK’s Sadhan Thirumalaikumar and DMDK‘s Muthukumar. It will soon be clear whether the battle is between AI-ADMK and DMK or AIADMK and MDMK. Interestingly, MDMK leader Vaiko’s native Kaligapatti village is falling under the Sankarankoil constituency. While the AIADMK announced its candidate even before the election schedule was announced and started the campaign work in full swing, DMK, MDMK and DMDK announced their candidates last month and then started their field work. Vaiko is heavily campaigning while AIADMK, DMK and DMDK leaders are expected to go in full throttle from next week.
