New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Uttarakhand government to file an Action Taken Report on relief operations being carried by the state after the recent floods left over 150 dead and thousands stranded in the state.
The two-member bench of judges AK Patnaik and Ranjan Gogoi have also ordered the Centre and Uttarakhand governments to provide immediate relief to those affected by the devastating floods in the state.
They have asked the state to provide food, drinking water, medicines and fuel. The apex court bench said relief material must be provided to the affected and stranded people without any discrimination.
Torrential rains and cloudburst over the weekend have caused widespread death and destruction in the hills of Uttarakhand, particularly around the highly revered Kedarnath shrine.
Officials have put the death toll at about 150 but unofficial sources say it could be much more.
