Coimbatore: In an alleged case of honour killing, a 21-year-old final year engineering student was allegedly killed on the orders of his wife's family in Tamil Nadu.
The couple was attacked with knives on a road on the outskirts of Coimbatore. Sankar died on the way to the hospital, while his wife has been admitted with injuries.
The girl's family reportedly disapproved of their marriage as Sankar hailed from the schedule caste while his wife belonged to the upper caste Thevar community.
Victim's father Velusamy said, "Her family has been threatening them all these days. A few months ago they sent people to chase them down but they managed to escape. This time they have hacked them."
Police have filed a case and investigation is underway.
