Dehradun: Rescue teams on Sunday continued to look for 25 people who went missing following landslides triggered by torrential rains in Uttarakhand as hopes of finding survivors diminished, two days after the tragedy left 15 people dead.
Personnel of the NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, SSB and state police were clearing the debris left after the cloudburst in Pithoragarh and Chamoli districts on Friday, officials said. The toll remains the same as no bodies have been recovered today, ADG (Law and Order) Anil Raturi said.
The personnel have been carrying out the rescue operation expeditiously in Bastadi, Naulada and other places, he said. However, the chances of their survival are very bleak.
The ADG said that among the 14 missing in Bastadi village, one person was found to be alive.
"The name has not been confirmed yet. However, it came to light that the person was not present in the village at time of catastrophe," he said.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army had tweeted on Saturday that the personnel had rescued an elderly woman trapped under a collapsed house in Pithoragarh.
