District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth has urged local self-governing bodies to make use of grants and subsidies provided by the state government for waste treatment projects. In a press release, the Collector pointed out that a person needs to spend only 25 per cent of the cost of a bio-gas plant if it is for domestic purposes.
“Each panchayat will get Rs 35 lakh for setting up a solid waste treatment plan while individuals will get Rs 1 lakh in this category. The government has deputed 30 agencies for implementing the projects. Local bodies can implement the project in association with these agencies,” said Pareeth.
The Collector also said that waste treatment activities through local bodies will be headed by the District Suchitwa Mission.
