New Delhi: Serena Williams beat Russian Vera Zvonareva in the final of Family circle cup to win her third WTA title of the year.
The fifth-seeded American fought back from an early break down in the third set to wrap up victory in little under two hours. This is her first clay title since 2002. Williams won the first set 6-4 but could not convert several break opportunities losing the second 3-6.
The 26 year old broke Zvonareva twice in the third set to clinch the 31st WTA title of her career. Williams has previously won titles in Bangalore and Miami this season. Williams will rise to sixth in the world when the new rankings are issued on Monday.
