Meat pieces were thrown by some mischief- makers into the premises of a place of worship in Defence Colony in Langerhouz police limits in the old city of Hyderabad on Sunday.
According to the police, some devotees who saw the pieces alerted the locals and the police. Police rushed to the shrine and cleaned the premises with the assistance of people, Langerhouz inspector NB Ratnam said.
A few days ago a section of people had circulated pamphlets making allegations against another group in the locality. The latest incident is said to be in retaliation to the circulation of pamphlets.
Local leaders of a section of community rushed to the spot and staged a dharna demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants.
Police said some youngsters spent some time at the shrine and the offending material was seen soon after the youngsters had left the place.
Langerhouz police registered a case on a complaint lodged by an official of the shrine.
