Lucknow: A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by four juveniles in Indiranagar area of Lucknow on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, police said, adding that one accused had been detained.
According to the girl’s mother, the accused barged into their house around midnight took away the girl and raped her in a nearby jungle. She added that she identified one of the accused and informed the police, who then apprehended him.
“When I was looking for my daughter in the forest area, I saw one of the accused forcing himself upon her, while three others were standing nearby. I immediately raised an alarm and the four fled from the spot, even as the locals came to help,” she told the police. “I brought her back to my shanty with the help of my neighbours and then informed the police,” she added.
Circle officer Indiranagar Avnishwar Chandra Srivastava said, “The accused who has been arrested is around 15 years old. According to his statement, three more boys were involved in the crime. A case of gang rape has been lodged against the four minors who have also been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and SC/ST Act. Efforts are on to trace the three absconding accused. All four live in Faridinagar.”
Locals blame poor patrolling by the police in the jungle area for the increase in criminal activities.
