SP asks FM to come clean on UK firm
The SP asks Chidambaram to explain his position on the issue of evading the recovery tax dues from Vedanta.

New Delhi: The Samajwadi Party on Tuesday asked Finance Minister P Chidambaram to explain his position on the issue of evading the recovery of Rs 250 crore tax from London-based firm Vedanta.

The party alleges that the process of recovering arrears from the Vedanta Group, owned by Anil Aggarwal, was being delayed because of the company's links with the Minister.

"Chidambaram was the director of Vedanta till the morning of his being sworn in as the Finance Minister. He was also their lawyer", SP leader Amar Singh said.

Demanding the resignation of Chidambaram for his involvement in delaying recovery of huge tax dues, Samajwadi Party and the TDP on Tuesday staged a walkout from Rajya Sabha.

Singh told reporters that Chidambaram should appoint capable lawyers and get the court stay on Vedanta's tax payment (regarding evasion) vacated. Vedanta Group is involved in mining and metals sector and owns aluminium company Balco.
