HYDERABAD: Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar who made a surprise visit to the New MLA quarters near Adarshnagar here on Wednesday morning, was shocked after seeing the conditions prevailing there. The canteen was most unhygienic, and there were no proper maintenance of records and the machinery in the dispensary was not functioning and sitting members were not allotted quarters. He ordered immediate closure of the canteen and sought explanation from the Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad commissioner for non-functioning of the machinery in the dispensary. The speaker along with legislature secretary S Rajasadaram had first visited the canteen and felt disappointed with the facilities being provided to the members. After ordering closure of the canteen, he visited the dispensary and found the doctor missing. He also noticed improper maintenance of records and non-functional machinery. He immediately issued orders summoning the APVVP commissioner to give an explanation.Hearing about the Speaker’s visit, Telangana Congress MLA K Sridhar (Wardhannapet) met him and complained about non-allocation of quarters to him in spite of repeated pleas. He told the speaker that he has been staying in an old quarter located near the Old MLA quarters in Hyderguda. The speaker was informed that the quarter allotted to Sridhar was being used by BC welfare minister Baswaraj Saraiah since the quarter allotted to him in the Ministers’ colony is still occupied by former minister and senior Congress member Gade Venkat Reddy. Besides, several quarters in the new MLA quarters are still under the occupation of former legislators. In all, there are 27 MLAs (elected in 2009 elections) who are still not allotted quarters. It is learnt that the speaker has directed the legislature secretary to take steps to vacate quarters occupied by the former members.
