CHENNAI: Various handicrafts, jewellery, dress materials and bronze items are on sale at the Poompuhar Sales Showroom as part of their annual stock clearance sale. In an effort to encourage artisans and to promote art and handicrafts, the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited conducts unique thematic exhibitions periodically. For the first time, a blanket discount of 10% has been offered on all items. All brass articles are available on a 15% discount. A Kamala, manager of the sales showroom, says, “This is to encourage people to patronise the ethnic artisans. Also, it is a good opportunity for those wanting to buy brass or handicraft items in bulk.”Bronze icons and lamps, Thanjavur paper plates and paintings, clay and terra cotta items, stone carvings, papier-mâché dolls, rosewood furniture, Kashmir wooden articles, jute products, rudrakshams, Jaipur paintings, handcrafted textiles and jewellery from all over Tamil Nadu and the country are on display and available for sale.Enthusiastic salespeople make for interesting conversations and purchases, said one of the visitors to the sale. The store is open from 10 am to 8 pm on all days, and the sale is on till March 25.
