MYSORE: Even before Hunsur taluk could get over Sunday’s incident where a mad dog attacked several people, a dog attacked a child in Mysore city on Monday morning. A stray dog attacked one-year-old Niketha, biting her severely on her ear, cheeks and head. She is currently undergoing treatment at Mission Hospital.Niketha is the daughter of Venkatesh and Geetha of Mandi Mohalla, Soppinakere. While playing with her mother outside the house, a stray dog standing near the garbage dump nearby suddenly pounced on her. Geetha’s efforts to stop the dog from attacking her daughter failed. A passer-by succeeded in chasing the dog away and the girl was rushed to the hospital. Doctors said that she is out of danger. Deputy Mayor Ravi Kumar visited the hospital and assured that the corporation would bear all the expenses. In Soppinakere, garbage is not cleared daily and stray dogs are a common sight. Even after filing several complaints, corporation officials have neither cleared the garbage nor tried to catch the dogs. Since the festival of Dasara is just around the corner, the corporation officials should take immediate action to curb the menace and ensure that no more residents are attacked by stray dogs in the area.
