All those who participated in the function partook of the lunch.Initiated by MLA S Sarma, around 25,000 students from the pre-primary to higher secondary classes in government and aided schools in the six panchayats of Vypeen and in Kadamakkudi, Mulavukad panchayats which form the Vypeen constituency will benefit from the scheme.Committees have been formed at different levels for its smooth functioning.The scheme has been fortified with additional resources from MLA fund. Termed ‘Amma Than Bhakshanam’, the programme aims to ensure that each child takes nutritious food. It has mothers also playing a major role in the preparation of tasty and nutritious food.The food is prepared by Mothers Teachers Association.Owing to skyrocketing price hike of commodities, this year the fund has been hiked from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 60 lakh, said sources.Velicham‘Velicham’ aims at improving the educational standards of students in academic and co-curricular activities. It also focuses on helping students to face examination and live a brave life by boosting their confidence. The other schemes of the programme will be launched soon, said sources.KalamasseryThe second phase of the noon meal scheme ‘Akshaya’ in 47 government and aided schools in Kalamassery initiated by Public Works Minister Ebrahim Kunju, was inaugurated by the Minister on Saturday.Last year about 11,372 students in Kalamassery benefited from the scheme and this year 1,000 more students benefited from it, sources said. It is no more gruel and green gram dhal in schools in Kalamassery. Students get to eat, rice, two side-dishes, sambhar and egg, milk and banana once a week.
