Sania Mirza lost her semi-final at the Sunfeast Open against former world No 1 Martina Hingis without a fight.
New Delhi: Sania Mirza lost her semi-final match against Martina Hingis 6-1, 6-0 in the $175,000 Sunfeast Open that is being played in Kolkata on Saturday.
The Indian already down to 70 in the latest WTA rankings after a poor show this year never stretched the former world No 1 in the match that lasted for 58 minutes.
"She is a great player and has a bright future before her. She has a good forehand so I tried to keep the ball on her backhand. But her backhand is also getting stronger," Hingis said after the match.
"I am sorry for her fans but I too want to win," she added.
In the quarter-finals on Friday, Hingis had defeated Tamarine Tanasugarn 7-5, 6-2 while Sania overcame Aravane Rezai 6-4, 7-5.
