JEYPORE: Water scarcity has hit the one lakh population of Jeypore for the last 15 days. Reason, lack of coordination between PHED and Energy Department officials. The stand posts in over 300 streets and water supply to 10,000 households in the town areas are not getting water supply regularly resulting in the crisis.Locals alleged that since August last, they have been facing disruption in water supply due to lack of coordination between Upper Kolab hydel project and PHED officials.Sources said the Upper Kolab project is not having enough water to fill the Satiguda dam reservoir as a result of which, PHED officials are not able to draw water for supply.Locals alleged that although they have been seeking the intervention of the district administration over the problem, no step has been taken so far.On the other hand, PHED officials said they are helpless. Direct supply of water from Upper Kolab reservoir instead of diverting it through Satiguda reservoir would ameliorate the problem to a large extent, but an amount of ` 10 crore is required for the project to materialise.Adding to the problems of people, Jeypore Municipality is yet to supply water through tankers.
