New Delhi: As the exodus of thousands of civilians continues in Sri Lanka's north, a massive rehabilitation drive is on in the government controlled areas.
Over 80,000 civillians have been rescued from the areas held by LTTE rebels in the last two days.
Almost 18,000 people have been rescued in overnight rescue bids.
LTTE rebel leader Prabhakaran was suspected to be hiding among the civilians along the eight km coastal strip.
But so far the government forces have been unable to trace him.
Sri Lankan troops believe Prabhakaran may try to escape the war zone by boat.
300-400 LTTE cadres are remaining in the area with around 700 forcibly armed men.
Reports even suggest senior LTTE leaders including the rebel group’s intelligence chief Pottuaman are on the run using motorbikes, looking to hide from aerial strikes.
Meanwhile the US has suggested third party mediation saying LTTE must surrender to a third party.
