What is the point in tweeting about mundane activities like boarding a flight or posting an Instagram-ed photograph.

Dear Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Katrina Kaif:

Thank you for not creating and running a public Twitter account.

We get that when celebrities use Twitter, it is basically to build a connect with their fans and use it as a publicity tool. While we totally understand that, what is the point in tweeting about mundane activities like eating salad, or boarding a flight or posting an Instagram-ed photograph of a random auto-rickshaw?

No, seriously. Have you seen what most of the celebrities post? Take Shah Rukh Khan's tweet for example: "Another morning...another day....time to sleep....love you all"; or Katy Perry's tweet: "Thin mints don't make ya thin, ps." Well, celebrities or otherwise, not all their thoughts are pearls of wisdom.

"If you're famous, I don't -- for the life of me -- I don't understand why any famous person would ever be on Twitter. Why on God's green earth would you be on Twitter," wondered George Clooney in an interview to Esquire magazine last year.

We agree.

Don't you think that celebrities, with the varied characters they play on and off screen, should be shrouded in some mystery? Imagine a reading a tweet by the '40s cultural icon Humphrey Bogart about buying eggs at a supermarket. Or -- horror of horrors -- reading a tweet by Audrey Hepburn about breaking a fingernail at a UNICEF event. Why go that far? How would you guys have liked to read tweets by Amitabh Bachchan in the '70s -- the very icon of angsty, outraged youth -- that went something like, "Cuddling with the wifey interrupted by baby's diaper change". The whole persona of the celebrity would have changed forever. Every time Bachchan picked up a weapon at a fight, we'd have thought of his tame, boring, and so very common, personal life.

In an interview to Aceshowbiz.com, Bradley Cooper perhaps summed the argument concisely. "For me, maybe I'm old fashioned, if I know so much about you and you're playing a character in a movie, then that's a lot of work I'm gonna have to do to forget who you are so that I can believe the character and therefore enjoy the movie."

"Why should I let people intrude into my life and let them know about my activities 24x7? My gatekeepers don't let everyone enter my house. So, why should I let anyone enter my pocket through my phone to follow me wherever I go?" said actor Imran Khan in an interview to Hindustan Times. He feels that the site gives liberty to people to behave irresponsibly. "Twitter is making people follow mob culture and lose their individuality. Anonymity and lack of monitoring makes them say things they would never say at your face," he added.

That's why actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan, Vidya Balan, Kareena Kapoor, Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Hemsworth, George Clooney and Bradley Cooper are wise.

Hollywood actress, comedian and writer Tina Fey spoke about not having a Twitter account in an interview last year. "Most people are so f-----g boring that they should just shut up." She also suggests and alternative for Twitter venting, "Go write it in a journal and mail it to your grandma," she fumed.

That is why, amidst all the chatter or twittering that is happening in the cyberspace, we'd just like to thank the celebrities who don't have a twitter handle. Thank you for eating your meals in peace, shopping without advertising and getting in and out of flights without your nose buried in your phone. Seriously, thank you.

What's your reaction?
