Finally, it's over! Farhan Akhtar's Oye! It's Friday aired its last episode… well… on a Friday and it's safe to assume I wasn't the only one heaving a sigh of relief.
Right from the first episode to some of the most recent ones, Farhan Akhtar showed us just how consistent he could be, consistent at being a poor host that is. Anyway, it's all finished now! And this is how it all ended.
The grand finale of the show saw two somewhat disparate guests on the couch – the sexy Shilpa Shetty and the rustic Sukhwinder Singh. Why the two had to be clubbed together is a question that's best left unanswered.
Let's just say one of them has sung an Oscar-winning number and the other one has bought an IPL team. Reasons enough, I guess, for Farhan to get them on his final episode.
Anyway, the episode begins with Farhan taking us on a guided behind-the-sets tour before announcing the names of his celebrity guests.
We are taken into another room where Shilpa Shetty is sitting anxiously with two other nobodies, looking anxious. Her name is announced and the star walks out of the room – just as the Bigg Boss2 housemates – and enters Farhan's sets.
"A-ha!" I say to myself, "Now that's a good idea!" But something inside tells me that it will probably be the only interesting bit on the show. Sure enough the voice is right.
DON'T MISS: Farhan-Karan fight it out on Oye!
What follows are a series of lame conversations about Shilpa's great body, her experiences with Big Brother, the Queen and Gordon Brown and some random chat about her height being a hindrance in Bollywood.
Then there were some other titbits about a certain Raj Kundra, a topic Shilpa tried hard (or at least pretended) to avoid but gave in. And on national television she told us how much she was in love with him and the cricket team they purchased.
Shilpa then taught Farhan her popular thumka steps from that item number Dilwalon ke dil ka karar lootne. Also showing off their thumkas were a bunch of dancers from Korea.
After another set of lame jokes and another commercial break we finally managed to hear Sukhwinder Singh belt out his Jai Ho number. Not that I am much of a fan of the song but I did find myself enjoying it a bit.
And just as I was actually getting into the groove, Farhan told me it was time to go! Hey, hold it, I wanted to hear something more from Sukhwinder Singh… like something about his Oscar victory, perhaps? Sigh! But Farhan had his way and said 'Oye!' for the last time.
Oye!" I said to myself as the show's credits rolled by, "It's over!"
