CHENNAI: To know and not to act on what you know is equal to not knowing. Understand that knowledge without action is like plowing without sowing. What is the distinction between knowledge and knowing? How does this distinction help a youth?Knowing is a process of learning. It is open and available; it means to continue knowing and not stopping at a conclusion, whereas knowledge is a static state, it is a sort of conclusion in most cases. When people say, “I know,” most of the time they are not open to know ing further. Their knowledge becomes bondage. They get stuck to what they know. Their knowledge acts like a trap in which they are trapped.Knowledge in interpersonal relationship functions like, “I know that the person is a fool,” or “he is bad” or “he is inefficient.” Knowledge is like a judgement, like a conclusion and in that process, one fails to see that the other person is a growing individual. How can one make a conclusion that he is bad, when the other is a growing individual? Knowledge operates like this.A youth should be alert when he says, “I know this will not work” or “my friend is a cheat” or “she is a flirt;” his knowledge should not be a conclusion. But he can say, “As far as I know, she is a flirt,” and in this process, he is validating what he knows but keeping his knowledge open and hence his knowledge gets transformed into knowing. Reflect deeply on what I have said. But in certain ways, is it right to say she is bad or she is a flirt? Is it not better or wiser to say, “As far as I know she is bad or she is a flirt,” or “To me, she appears to be a flirt or she is bad?” There is more elegance in such a communication. Why should I say like that? She has flirted and hence she is bad, is it not?Who knows, it may be your interpretation that she has flirted. You might have seen them together somewhere and hence you have concluded she is flirting. Even if she has flirted with some men, you can’t conclude she is bad. For her, the relationship might not have worked with these people and instead of getting stuck and suffering she is smart enough to for a right partner instead of being miserable with a wrong partner.

What's your reaction?
