UDUPI: A place in Mudradi village, Karkala taluk, has become synonymous with its theatre activities. A locality comprising 50-60 houses, in the village has been named as ‘Natkadooru’ (place of drama) through a resolution by the gram panchayat. Thanks to Nama Tuluver Kala Sanghatane (NATKA) (R), Mudradi, for its continuous and aggressive theatre activities for 26 years.Mudradi GP at its monthly general meeting held recently, passed a resolution to name the locality covering Ujoor, Manthibettu and Nellibettu as Natkadooru. Nama Tuluver Kalasanghatane, headed by its president Sukumar Mudradi, had been actively organising activities like children’s drama festival, Navarangothsava, Ranga Samvada, national theatre festivals. “People used to call our place Natkadooru, as the theatre activities here have increased over the last few years,” said Sukumar, who is also a member of Karnataka Nataka Academy. Sukumar also announced to organise the second national-level, multi-lingual theatre festival Navarangothsava, from February 25 to March 4, 2012.
