Third Eye to keep vigil over Fort City soon

VELLORE: The Fort City will soon come under the ‘third eye’- a closed circuit television surveillance system with video data analysis set up by the police department. Besides this, the police has also taken initiatives to revive the surveillance mechanism in other parts of the district to check crimes and ease the traffic flow.This project is aimed to bring down crimes and monitor suspicious movements in crime prone areas, besides executing effective traffic management in the city. “With the help of  Vellore Corporation, we will install 88 fixed cameras in strategic points in the city at a cost of around ` Two crore,” Superintendent of Police, Vellore, A Kayalvizhi told Express. The installation work is expected to be complete by end-April or early May.The 50 metre 1.3 mega pixel infrared cameras will be installed in 22 junctions in the city. “The wireless cameras will be connected to UPS and the digital data recorded will be stored in the master control rooms at the Deputy Superintendent of Police’s office in Vellore and Katpadi.  “The footage will be crystal clear,” said an engineer who is engaged in implementing the project.The project will help in effective policing and cracking down crime cases such as robbery, hit and run cases and traffic violations, said the SP, adding, “It will also create a moral fear among the criminals.” “We also urged the district administration to provide 32 additional cameras for the sub-divisions,” the SP said.
