Three employees of Chhattisgarh Electricity Board, including an assistant engineer, were on Saturday booked by police for alleged negligence in connection with the death of a trainee lineman in 2012.

"Assistant Engineer Yogesh Patel, Assistant A Dharmadas and Line Assistant SS Akhtar have been booked under sections 304 (A) (causing death by negligence), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of Indian Penal Code in connection with the death of a trainee Lineman Vikas Bharadwaj," Raigadh SP (City) Satyendra Pandeya told reporters.

The incident occurred on July 7, 2012 when Bharadwaj climbed an electricity pole to repair a transformer in Chaitanya Nagar locality of the city. According to police, Bharadwaj was allegedly not provided any safety gear and died of shock when the electricity supply suddenly switched on.

While Dharmadas and Akhtar were suspended following an inquiry conducted against them, Patel was issued a show cause notice and his increments were stopped by the department, the SP said.
